Just Add Ink #416 - Sketch - Floral Frames

Good Day Crafty Friends,

Hope you have had a great week. Its challenge time over at Just Add Ink and this week we have a fun sketch for you to play along with.

It maybe hard to spot the sketch in my card at first glance but if you follow the Lemon Lime Twist elements you will see the basic sketch elements are there.

I absolutely LOVE my stitched detailed dies and the Stitched Shapes Framelits have to be my favies and most frequently used. I have loads of squares die cut in many colours as when I am constructing my cards I always remove a die cut from the layer that will not be seen.

I love layered cards but it seems so wasteful to not utilise all of the card stock, especially those parts that are covered with other layers. 

Utilising some of the stitched square die cuts in Lemon Lime Twist and Coastal Cabana, I have added a Black panel over the Tropical Escape DSP and then a thin strip of Lemon Lime Twist. The gold heat embossed die cut was created using the Floral Frames Bundle and was adhered using Tombow. A few stamped images from Tropical Chic and Cake Soiree stamp sets and die cuts made in Coastal Cabana and Gold Foil card were added, before completing the card with a little swing tag hanging from gold metallic thread.

AddINKtive Designs Team June Projects

Hope you are well. I have a few creations to share with you today, all designed for this months AddINKtive Designs Team Monthly Highlights.

I totally love being part of this crazy talented Design Team, and look forward to all the creative projects the Ladies at AddINKtive Designs make each month. We also have very some very talented new additions to the AddINKtive Design Team family - Welcome to Nicole Wilson, Kim Oliver, Jerim Dickins and Katrina Duffell. If you don't already follow them be sure to look up their blogs as they are all super creative and inspiring.

I have made two pocket cards and a shadow box card using all new products from the Annual Catalogue. The options for decorating Pocket Cards are endless and I love that there are two surfaces to decorate. You can decorate the Belly Band with embellishments like the first sample or add a card front to the Pocket Card and go from there. The first pocket card uses the gorgeous Floral Frames stamp set. I have fussy cut the large stamped image after colouring. The smaller stamped floral images were coloured and die cut using the coordinating Foliage Frame Framelits. From whisper white card, the large frame in the Stitched Labels Framelits was die cut and adhered to the black belly band with some bakers twine attached at either end. The stamped images were attached over the large frame and belly bend using a combination of Tombow and mini dimensionals.

The second pocket card uses the wonderfully versatile Tropical Chic Bundle. I have used Pineapple Punch, Granite Grey and Powder Pink inks for the stamped images along with card stock in Whisper White, Granite Grey, Pineapple Punch and Silver Foil.

The little arrows on the circular tab punch are from a dream catcher made using the Chase Your Dreams Framelits. Again, I have used the large frame created using the Stitched Labels Framelits for the base of the tropical arrangement. A stamped card front was attached to the Pocket card base, then the decorated belly band is slipped over the top. Don't forget to decorate the inside of your Pocket Cards or as my daughter says ' Don't forget to slip in a gift card' lol.

My third project uses one of my absolute favourite AddINKtive Designs tutorials - The Shadow Box card. It is incredibly easy to make and construct the base card and the options for decorating a limited to your creativity. Technique - Drawing on Stamped Images

I hope you have had a wonderful day. Mine has been a productive one - ticking items off to do lists is so rewarding, especially when they are things you have been purposely delaying. With the linen cupboard and pantry sorted I can now get into something I love - creating!!

Today's post is a collation of creations I recently shared on Instagram. All these cards use a technique that I totally enjoy as I am a doodler, especially when I am on the telephone. This technique is great for monochrome patterned DSP and also for some stamped images.

Simply take a Black Ink Pen and add details to stamped images. For these cards I have chosen the leaf and flower bud images from Cake Soiree and the small floral image from Petal Palette.

Small strokes of the pen have been added to mimic leaf veins and flower stamens. To compliment the Black Ink strokes, ensure you add other Black elements in small touches - I have used foliage stamps from Jar of Love and Cake Soiree stamp sets.

The images really pop when adding a lot of white space. I added some texture for this one with the Pinewood Planks Embossing Folder.

Something a bit simpler. Changing the colour combinations of the stamped images gives you so many different looks.

Again using texture, this time created using the Basket Weave Embossing Folder

Colour INKspiration #34

Welcome to the Colour INKspiration Challenge #34 Blog Hop. You are currently visiting Jackie Aitken in Perth, Australia. If you are following the hop you may have arrived here having just visited the super talented Rose Packer.

We have a super stunning picture to inspire your creative juices for this challenge, which runs for three weeks. The challenge colours are: Calypso Coral, Pool Party, Daffodil Delight and Basic Grey.

I adore this picture, in particular, the gorgeous architecture and the perfectly preserved 1950's American vehicles on the streets of modern day Cuba.  The buildings are just delightful colours, I especially love all the Pastel tones. Wouldn't this be a fabulous street to live on.  I dibs the Pink building! Lol

I decided to pull out a technique I haven't used in a while to create the "special effects" on this cards stamped images. I personally love the look this technique produces, especially on stamp sets I may have owned for a while that have been somewhat unloved or uninked recently.

I have stamped the small floral image from Petal Palette stamp set in Daffodil Delight, and the other images from Cake Soiree in Calypso Coral and Pool Party.

Then all I have done is simply take a black ink pen and draw in the details. I am by no means an artist and this is easier than it looks. Choose a starting point for contact and taper off your flicks. Think of veins and stamens that naturally exist on flowers and leaves and try to mimic those lines with strokes of the pen.

My top tip when using this technique is do all the drawing/doodling before you die cut/fussy cut the images.

While I had the supplies out I decided to make an additional card with the Callenge colours. The second card is stepped up ever so slightly by adding a few die cut stitched shaped circles and some DSP (or in this case, cut up SAB Tutti Frutti card). Stitched Circle die cuts in Calypso Coral and Pool Party were tucked behind the panel of DSP. The Basic Grey strip was omitted and the decorative embellishments colours changed from So Saffron to Grapefruit Grove.

Jar Of Love & Cake Soiree

Hope you are having a fabulous day.  I have a few cards to share with you today, but first I wanted to chat about a few changes I am making.

I have taken a lesson from the extremely busy Demonstrators in the blogging world - Batch Everything! Meaning, to save time, its more effective to complete tasks in batches. I have put this into practice and am discovering the benefits.

I make so many cards and paper craft projects that I don't have the time to write a blog post for every single item I create.  I do share these on other social media platforms such as Instagram and on my Facebook Business Page, as they just require posting a photograph which can easily be done from my phone.

What I have decided to do is collate all these creations and share them on a weekly basis through a single blog post, so that way, those that follow me solely through my blog are not missing out.

I have cut down a few of the cards from the Sale a Bration Tutti Frutti card and envelope pack and used them in the following cards:

I love Pocket Cards. They are quick and easy to construct using an Envelope Punch Board.  Plus, I love that there are two surfaces to decorate. The insert has the added bonus of space for writing a lengthy message or it can be made to house a gift card. Aside from fancy folds, these are one of my favourite style of cards.

Just Add Ink #408 Colour Challange

Happy Friday!! It's challenge time over at Just Add Ink, and Rochelle has an absolutely gorgeous colour combo for us to play with this week. So pretty - just like the Design Team's and Guest Designer, Artisan - Susan Wong, creations this week.

I am loving the pink and green tones together. I originally planned to use these colours with a Whisper White card base, but changed my mind at the last minute.

 

I created a 6 x 6 card base and went to town with the Eclectic Layers Thinlits. Once I was satisfied with the card front, I backed it with Powder Pink card and attached this to the card base.

I have stamped the floral images from Cake Soiree in Powder Pink and applied Melon Mambo with a sponge dauber. The foliage has been stamped in a combination of Pear Pizzazz and Wild Wasabi.

 

Some Twine, Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon and Gold Die cuts were tucked under the floral cluster, which was adhered to strips of Pear Pizzazz card. To finish the card, a Gold Foil die cut "celebrate" created using the Celebrate You Thinlits was added along with a few Share What You Love Artisan Pearls.
