Jar Of Love & Cake Soiree

Good Day Crafty Friends,

Hope you are having a fabulous day.  I have a few cards to share with you today, but first I wanted to chat about a few changes I am making.

I have taken a lesson from the extremely busy Demonstrators in the blogging world - Batch Everything! Meaning, to save time, its more effective to complete tasks in batches. I have put this into practice and am discovering the benefits.

I make so many cards and paper craft projects that I don't have the time to write a blog post for every single item I create.  I do share these on other social media platforms such as Instagram and on my Facebook Business Page, as they just require posting a photograph which can easily be done from my phone.

What I have decided to do is collate all these creations and share them on a weekly basis through a single blog post, so that way, those that follow me solely through my blog are not missing out.

I have cut down a few of the cards from the Sale a Bration Tutti Frutti card and envelope pack and used them in the following cards:

This Pocket Card uses Petal Palette Stamp Set and Memories & More Card Pack

I love Pocket Cards. They are quick and easy to construct using an Envelope Punch Board.  Plus, I love that there are two surfaces to decorate. The insert has the added bonus of space for writing a lengthy message or it can be made to house a gift card. Aside from fancy folds, these are one of my favourite style of cards.

Just Add Ink #408 Colour Challange

Happy Friday!! It's challenge time over at Just Add Ink, and Rochelle has an absolutely gorgeous colour combo for us to play with this week. So pretty - just like the Design Team's and Guest Designer, Artisan - Susan Wong, creations this week.

I am loving the pink and green tones together. I originally planned to use these colours with a Whisper White card base, but changed my mind at the last minute.

 

I created a 6 x 6 card base and went to town with the Eclectic Layers Thinlits. Once I was satisfied with the card front, I backed it with Powder Pink card and attached this to the card base.

I have stamped the floral images from Cake Soiree in Powder Pink and applied Melon Mambo with a sponge dauber. The foliage has been stamped in a combination of Pear Pizzazz and Wild Wasabi.

 

Some Twine, Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon and Gold Die cuts were tucked under the floral cluster, which was adhered to strips of Pear Pizzazz card. To finish the card, a Gold Foil die cut "celebrate" created using the Celebrate You Thinlits was added along with a few Share What You Love Artisan Pearls.

Colour INKspiration Challenge #32

Good Day Crafty Friends,

Hope you are having a fabulous day. Welcome to the Colour INKspiration Challenge Blog Hop. You are visiting Jackie Aitken, in Western Australia. If you are following the Hop, you may have arrived here from my lovely and super talented friend, Nicole Wilson. Wasn't her creation just stunning! Be sure to follow the Hop all the way through, the Design Team have created some absolute beauties to inspire your creativity.

 

This weeks, colour combo is simply YUM! Night of Navy, White, Gold and Pink Pirouette. Actually, anything with Pink Pirouette, in my mind, is always YUMMY.

 

I love all these colours individually. Normally colours I like by themselves do not make fabulous combinations. However, don’t you think this one is a stunner! 

 

My card today uses a few new products from the new Annual Catalogue which are not available until 1st of June - The Subtle Embossing Folder, Darling Label Punch, Pearlized Doilies, the ever so sweet Share What You Love Artisan Pearls and the gorgeous Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon.

 

The new Subtle Embossing Folder is just that, very subtle. I really like it. Perfect for CAS cards that need that teeny bit of texture without being overbearing. It has an almost linen appearance, and looks lovely teamed with wooden elements such as the Wood Textures DSP.

 

The Pearlized Doillies have two different finishes on each side - one is pearlized, the other white. I have used the white side as it looked better with the ribbon.

  

I fiddle with my card layouts until I am happy.  When using a central focal point such as a cluster of elements, try adjusting the position for totally different looks eg lower right, centre, top right.

 

I often work backwards lol Let Me Explain - I start with the card front elements first and work my way back in layers. Often the card base and bottom matt layers are the last thing decided upon.

 

When working with lots of fiddly die cuts,  I use a piece of Press n Seal and place it over the top of my layout. I then flip it over, adhere glue to the backs of the die cuts, flip it back over and press in place, the die cuts stick to your card and the Press n Seal just peels away.

Just Add Ink #403 - Colour Combination Pocket Card

Hope your day is going well. I am excited to say I have finally finished all my Onstage Display projects and swaps. I was cutting it fine with my swaps but knew if I pushed myself I would have them all completed tonight. If you are not attending an Onstage, be sure to keep an eye out for my next few weeks posts, as I will be sharing items made with items from the new catalogue due in June.

 

Its challenge time over at Just Add Ink and this week we have a stunning colour combination to play along with - Fresh Fig, Gold, Bermuda Bay and Whisper White.

For my card I decided to continue on with my pocket card obsession and create one using this week’s challenge colours 

I have started with a Whisper White card base splattered with Bermuda Bay ink. The Envelope Punch Board was used to create the Pocket Card Envelope.

To decorate I have added a strip of Bermuda Bay, a die cut shape in Fresh Fig, Whisper White "trellis' die made using the Petal Palette Framelits. Next, some metallic thread then the stitched shaped circles in Whisper White and Bermuda Bay, between the layers I added some gold glitter card stock and Bermuda bay strips.

 

The flower dies from Cake Soiree were added in Gold Foil and Fresh Fig with the flower die cut in Bermuda Bay - made using the Eclectic Layers Thinlits.

 

To finish the card, a Happy Birthday sentiment was stamped onto Whisper White card and attached to the Fresh Fig insert, with a Gold Binder clip attached to the top.

Pocket Card - Petal Palette

Hope you are having a great day. I am currently on a Pocket Card fad! I cannot stop making them!

I  recently saw Stampin’ Up! Artisan - Kim McGillis and Sara Douglas (SU’s C.E.O) both use a similar fold to create some spectacular wow factor cards.

The pocket and insert are super easy and fast to make using the Envelope Punch Board. I have played with a few different styles and found that the base is not really seen, it’s all about how it’s been decorated. 

So to simplify my card making and enable me to use one sheet of A4 per card, I’ve stuck to the basic Envelope shape minus the top flap. 

However, this was one prototype I tried. It’s basically made like a paper bag, with seams at the back. Lots of fiddling compared to the Envelope Punch Board. 

I chose to use Berry Burst as my main colour - I have loads of that yummy ribbon so Berry Burst it was! Lol

The Whisper White pocket Base has been splattered with Berry Burst Ink before Construction. 

A panel of Berry Burst Card Stock was cut using a Sizzix Decorative Shape Framelit (Not SU). To this I added a Whisper White trellis die cut, made using the Petal Palette Framelits. 

 

A Sahara Sand belly band has been stamped with the sentiment from Floral Phrases. To this I added a few die cuts and tied off some ribbon and twine.

The Berry Burst insert has been stamped and has a Whisper White panel for writing a greeting. I added a Whisper White stitched circle to the top of the insert and stapled some Berry Burst and Sheer White ribbon.

 

I had better get off the computer so I can start photographing my Onstage Display items while the light is favourable - TWO MORE SLEEPS!!!!!!! To say I am excited is an understatement!! Lol

W.A SU Demo Retreat - Petal Palette

Hope you are having a fantastic day. Welcome to the WA Demo Retreat Blog Hop 2018. You are currently visiting Jackie Aitken.

Last weekend I was lucky enough to have been able to attend an awesome event hosted by fellow Design Team Members, Kelly Kent and Nicole Wilson.  These ladies put on a spectacular day full of crafting, laughing, prizes and meeting new friends. 

 

I was joined by Thirty plus Stampin Up! Demonstrators from all over Western Australia. Such a lovely and talented group of ladies, some have been Demo's since SU arrived in Australia 10 years ago. 

 

I cannot wait to see them all in a few weeks time at Onstage in Perth. 

Each of us were required to create a card and provide 12 kits for that project so that on the day each of us would complete 12 different cards.

 

We had twenty minutes to create each make and take. The timeframe was such a fun aspect on the day.  Kelly and Nicole and their support team did such a fabulous job organising the whole event, we had tea, coffee, snacks and the ladies gave away so many prizes on the day!

Here is the card I designed for my Make & Take.

My card starts with a Whisper White Card Base. To this a layer of Gold Foil card was attached. Next, a panel of Whisper White was stamped with the foliage and dotty texture stamps, using Crumb Cake ink.

A strip of Wood Textures DSP was attached to the right hand side, with a gap between the Whisper White panel - allowing Gold Foil to show

 

The Petal Palette Floral Image was Heat Embossed in Gold and water coloured using Powder Pink and Sahara Sand.

The sentiment from Cake Soiree was also Gold Heat Embossed and adhered with mini dimensionals. The gold die cut accents tucked under the floral image were created using dies from Sweet Cake Framelits and Eclectic Layers Thinlits. To finish the card a few vellum leaves were added.

Just Add Ink #384 - Inspiration

Hello Crafty Friends,

Hope you are having a great day. The warmer weather is finally on its way to Western Australia. I walked into my craft area this morning to find the sun had been beaming through my window, onto cards I had laid out the night before. The ends of all the card bases had begun to curl slightly. Time for the blinds to be permanently drawn!! Such a shame as its lovely working under the natural light, with the sunshine warming my back.

 

Its challenge time over at Just Add Ink, and this week, Jan has chosen a stunning inspiration picture for us to work with. I just adore all the blue tones, especially the centre of those amazing blooms. For my card I chose to use the vibrant colours in the picture - the blues, white and yellow.

The card starts with a Thick Whisper White card base. The next layer is WW card embossed with the Softly Falling EF. The layered panel has been created by extending the square stitched framelit and the square scalloped edge framelit to make rectangle layers.

The flower die cuts were created using the Eclectic Layers Thinlits - again extending the die so the stems were longer. Dapper Denim, Tempting Turquoise and a little Marina Mist inks were splattered onto some, others had a brush apply ink directly to the die cuts.

 

To incorporate the yellow from the challenge picture, the sentiment was white heat embossed onto So Saffron card and adhered to the card with mini dimensionals.

Colour INKspiration #19 Blog Hop

Welcome to the Colour INKspiration #19 Blog Hop. You are visiting Jackie.  If you are following the blog hop, you would have arrived here from the very talented, Denita Wright-Smee. The colours for this challenge are : Whisper White, Smoky Slate, Basic Grey, Garden Green and Daffodil Delight.

On first glance of the inspiration picture I was inclined to go masculine and geometrical. But as I tend to often do, I decided to not listen to my initial creative thoughts and tried to think how I could use these colours for something tropical. Well, that didn't exactly eventuate either, I wouldn't call it tropical at all, but that was where I was heading with this being the final result.

I decided to make a wall hanging with a matching card as it will be given as a gift. To be honest there is little stamping in my projects - just loads of die cutting. The following items have been used to die cut the flowers and varied leaves : Eclectic Layers Thinlits, Everyday Jar Framelits, May Flowers Thinlit, Botanical Builders Framelits, Christmas Lamppost Thinlits.

 

The Card has a thick Whisper White Card Base. The Christmas Lamppost Thinlits were used to create the wrought iron looking frame. Two of each die were cut in Basic Grey to match the layer with the white heat embossed sentiment. The sentiment is from Colourful Seasons.

 

A layer of Smoky Slate was cut using the Stitched Shapes Framelits - by extending the largest square die to create a rectangle. This was embossed using the Hexagons EF. The flowers have been created using Daffodil Delight and White Card. The leaves with Garden Green and Gold Glitter card. 

 

The Wall Hanging has been created using an A4 piece of Glossy White Card that has been backed with the card that the large DSP packs come packaged in. 

 The sentiment from Colourful Seasons has been heat embossed in gold.  Using card stock in the challenge colours with the variety of  Dies listed above, I made six little clusters. All pieces were adhered (patiently over two days lol) with tombow.

Just Add Ink #375 - Sketch

Hello Crafty Friends,

Hope your Friday is treating you well. It's challenge time over at Just Add Ink and Kim has challenged us with a sketch.  I loved the simplicity of this sketch,  I decided to rotate the orientation, to create two tent fold cards.

The first card has a glossy white card front. Using a stencil from the Party Pattern Decorative Masks, I sponged Black Momento Ink, lighting the saturation gradually towards the centre. Then I removed the mask and lightly sponged Flirty Flamingo and Daffodil Delight inks.

The card front was adhered to a layer of black card before adhering to the Flirty Flamingo card base. A vellum circle was cut using the Stitched Shapes and glued to the card front with a dab of Tombow.

The sentiment from Birthday Delivery was white heat embossed on black card and a layer of silver glimmer card was attached to the bottom.  The flower and leaves were die cut using the Eclectic Layers Thinlits and adhered to the vellum circle.

The inside of the flower is also glossy card with Flirty Flamingo & Melon Mambo inks applied with an aqua painter.
 

The second card uses the large flower and a leaf from the Falling Flowers stamp set. I stamped the images in Archival Black onto Shimmery White card and water coloured with Powder Pink, Blushing Bride, Wild Wasabi and Daffodil Delight. The centre image was stamped first and then masked and repeated to create the panel in the sketch.
 

I used the Circle Stitched Shapes to cut the two circles and raised with dimensionals for the outside ring and foam strip for the inside ring. The sentiment from Teeny Tiny Sentiments, was white heat embossed on black card and punched using the window word punch (now retired)
